APBA 1979 World Series Replay – Game 7 – Pirates @ Orioles

Winner take all Game 7 of the 1979 World Series. Orioles have fought back from a 3-1 deficit and send Scott McGregor (13-6 3.35 Grade 10Z) to the mound and the Pirates go with Jim Bibby (12-4 2.81 Grade 10YZ).

The Pirates come out quick as MVP Willie Stargell drives in 2 runs with a single to right. In the bottom of the 2nd Bibby would lead off. Bibby would take a McGregor fastball down the line to left for a home run and a 3-0 lead. (Don’t think there have been many homers by pitchers in Game 7 of a World Series).

In the bottom of the 3rd the Orioles would get 2 of those runs back as Kiko Garcia would triple to right scoring Al Bumbry and McGregor. Bibby would strikeout Ken Singleton and get Eddie Murray to fly out to right to get out of the jam. In the 4th the Pirates would add a run to their lead. Tim Foli would single in Phil Garner. In the top of the 5th the Pirates would get another insurance run courtesy of a pinch hit RBI by John Milner to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the 6th the Orioles would get a run via 2 out RBI single by Doug DeCinces. With the score 5-3 going to the 8th the Pirates would again turn the ball over to Kent Tekulve. Tekulve would face 6 batters and set down 6 batters striking out 2 and securing the Championship for the Pirates. The Pirates rush the field as they win Game 7 in Baltimore as they actually did in 1979. The had to hold off the Orioles who was trying to come back from 3-1 down as the Pirates did in the actual 79 Series. Another really fun playoff series replay. So far we have done 79 and 84 with the actual champions winning.

Final Score: Pirates 5, Orioles 3

WP: Grant Jackson (1-0)

LP: Scott McGregor (0-2)

Save: Kent Tekulve (3)

HR’s: Pirates – Jim Bibby (1)
