APBA 1988 ALCS Replay – Game 6 – Oakland’s A’s vs Boston Red Sox

Red Sox get the series back to Fenway and send Mike Boddicker (13-15 3.39 Grade 13YZ) to the mound against Bob Welch (17-9 3.64 Grade 11YZ).

The A’s would strike first as with 2 outs in the 1st Jose Canseco would take Boddicker over the Green Monster for a quick 1-0 lead. Welch and Boddicker would be in complete control for the next 5 innings as we would still be 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 6th. The Red Sox would bar around and score 3 runs off Welch. Sac Fly from Dwight Evans and run scoring singles from Rich Gedman and Jody Reed account for the scoring.

Boddicker would come out for the 9th with the 3-1 lead. He would get the first 2 outs and the Fenway faithful on their feet. Canseco again would line a shot over the Monster to cut the lead to one at 3-2. Needing only one more out but the dangerous Mark McGwire up the Sox stay with Boddicker and he rewards them by getting McGwire to fly out to center to end the game. Red Sox win 3-2 and force Game 7 in the ALCS!!

Final Score: Red Sox 3, A’s 2

WP: Mike Boddicker (1-0)

LP: Bob Welch (0-1)

HR’s: A’s – Jose Canseco 2 (2)
