APBA 1988 World Series Replay – Game 4 – Dodgers vs A’s

The Dodgers winning 2 and row and now with the series lead send Tim Belcher (12-6 2.91 Grade 12XZG) to the mound against Bob Welch (17-9 3.64 Grade 11YZ).

 

Welch and Belcher pitched good in Game 1 and they both started off the same in Game 4. Through 3 innings we are scoreless with both teams combining for only 4 hits. In the 4th the Dodgers would finally break through against Welch. Kirk Gibson would walk and steal 2nd base. Mike Scioscia would single with 2 outs to score Gibson for the Dodgers first run in 13 innings against Welch.

 

The score would remain 1-0 until the top of the 8th when the Dodgers would get some insurance. Alfredo Griffin would walk with one to bring up Steve Sax, Sax would homer to left to make it 3-0. Huge homer to give the Dodgers some breathing room. The Dodgers would add 3 more in the 9th including a Jeff Hamilton homer, and Belcher would go the distance only allowing 4 hits in the 6-0 Dodgers win. Dodgers take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
