Cleveland still facing elimination sends Donnie Hood (5-6 4.48 Grade 3) to the mound while Chicago sends veteran left Wilbur Wood (10-10 5.20 Grade 2). Another solid performance by both pitcher as Wood only gives up 2 runs in 6+ and Hood goes 8+ strong only giving up one run. The Indians took a 4-1 1 lead going into the 9th and closer Jim Kern on the mound. The first 2 batters reach in the top of the 9th and after hitting only 5 homers in the regular season utility man Wayne Nordhagen launches a 3 run homer to tie the game at 4. Cleveland gets to come back to Cleveland Stadium albeit down 2-0. Cleveland sends Mike Paxton (12-11 3.86 Grade 6) to the mound opposite Francisco Barrios (9-15 4.05 Grade 6). Indians would jump out on top 2-0 after scoring 1 run in the bottom of the first and the second. Including Bernie Carbo's homer in the second frame. White Sox would get on the board with a run in the 5th, but Cleveland would answer back with a 4 spot in the 6th. This was more than enough for Paxton as he goes the distance in the 6-1 win.
