Game 3 – 1985 Tournament Replay Mets @ Tigers

Series is tied at 1 apiece as we head to Tiger Stadium for games 3, 4, and 5. The Tigers send Walt Terrell (15-10 3.85 Grade 8YH) to the mound as the Mets send Cy Young winner Dwight Gooden (24-4 1.53 Grade 25 XYZ).

 

The Mets strike first as Ray Knight delivers a 2 out single to score Darryl Strawberry. In the 4th Knight again would deliver with 2 outs. This time a single to center to score Lenny Dyskstra. In the 5th they would get another run as Mookie Wilson would score on a double play ball.

 

With the score 3-0 Mets and Gooden cruising with 7 K’s through 5, the Tigers would get 2 men on in the 5th. Chet Lemon would take the Gooden curve ball and line it out to left field to tie the game. The score would remain tied as we head to the 9th. With runners on 1st and 3rd and 2 out, Gary Carter would line a single to left center off Willie Hernandez to score Wilson and give the Mets a 4-3 lead. Gooden would pitch a perfect 9th striking out 2 more and the Mets have a 2-1 series advantage.

 

Final Score: Mets 4, Tigers 3
