Game 5 – 1985 Tournament Replay Blue Jays at Red Sox

The road team has won all 4 games so far and the Red Sox are trying to steam that tide by sending Oil Can Boyd (15-13 3.70 Grade 11YZ) to the mound against Blue Jay ace Dave Stieb (14-13 2.48 Grade 16Y).

After a scoreless first 2 innings the Blue Jays would explode for 5 runs in the 3rd. Jesse Barfield, Tony Fernandez, and Garth Iorg all with big extra base hit RBI. The Jays would add a couple more in the 4th as Damaso Garcia lines a 2 run homer over the Green Monster to make it 7-0. After a Bill Buckner homer the Jays would get insurance runs in the 6th and 7th to make it 9-1, more than enough for Stieb. Stieb would go the distance only allowing 5 hits.

Final Score: Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 2

WP: Dave Stieb (1-1)

LP: Oil Can Boyd (1-1)

HR’s: Blue Jays – Damaso Garcia (1), Red Sox – Bill Buckner (1)
