Game 4 – 1978 Tournament Replay Athletics vs Cardinals

Game 4 saw Oakland trying to protect home field and even the series at 2 apiece. Silvio Martinez toed the rubber for the Cards and Pete Broberg for Oakland. The offense can quickly in this one as the Cardinals scored 2 in each of the first 2 innings. George Hendrick with the big 2 run shot to get the Cardinals on top. The A’s answered with a run in each of the first two frames, but that still had then down 4-2 after 2. The A’s added 2 more runs in the 4th with a clutch 2 run RBI from Tony Armas and that quickly we had a tie game. Pitching took over from here and it wasn’t until the top of the 10th that the Cardinals grabbed the lead with an opposite field RBI base hit from Keith Hernandez. Cardinals close Mark Littell comes in the bottom of the 10th and strikes out the side to secure the victory and the series win for St. Louis.
