This second round matchup features the #19 Chicago White Sox, whom beat the #20 Cleveland Indians, and the #13 Detroit Tigers. The White Sox finished 71-90, 5th in the AL West and the Tigers came in at 86-76 good enough for 5th in the AL East. The White Sox sent starter Steve Stone (12-12 4.37 Grade 5) to the mound. The Tigers send Jim Slaton (17-11 4.12 Grade 8). Wow, what a start to this series as the White Sox come out of the gate in the top of the first and plate 6 runs. Huge 2 run double by Chet Lemon the big blow. Tigers would answer with 2 of their own in the bottom half courtesy of a double by Rusty Staub. After 1 inning we had a score of 6-2. The White Sox where not done tacking 3 more on in the second and knocking Slaton out of the game. The Tigers tried to get back in the game with single runs in the 2nd and the 4th, but a 5 spot by the White Sox in the 5th put this one out of reach. White Sox gather 24 hits and 16 runs to take Game 1 16-4. Tigers look to rebound in Game 2.
