Game 1 – 1978 Tournament Replay Twins vs Angels

This second round matchup pits the #18 Minnesota Twins winners of their first round matchup with the Astros and the #12 California Angels. The Twins finished the regular season 73-89, 4th in the AL West. The Angels had a mark of 87-75, good enough for 2nd in the AL West. Game 1 had Minnesota sending Gary “Truth” Serum (9-9 4.10 Grade 5) to the mound against southpaw Frank Tanana (18-12 3.65 Grade 11). This figures to be a good series and Game 1 was a very good game. The Angels jump on top 1-0 via RBI single by Rick Miller in the 2nd. The Twins would fire back with the 3 of their own in the top of the 3rd, only to have the Angels tie it back up in the bottom half via 2 run homer by Don Baylor. The Twins would put up another 2 spot on the top of the 6th with some clutch. Not to be outdone the Angels go for 4 in the bottom of the sixth, another huge 2 run homer by Baylor. The Twins would try to come back with a run in the 7th but Dave LaRoche comes in to get the save.

Final Score: Angels 8, Twins 6
