Game 4 – 1978 Tournament Replay Phillies vs Giants

Must win Game 4 for the Phillies after the heartbreaking defeat in Game 3. The Giants send Ed Halicki (9-10 2.85 Grade 13) to the mound versus lefty Randy Lerch (11-8 3.96 Grade 5).

No score heading into the 4th, but the Phillies would crack through with 2 runs in the top half. RBI single by Mike Schmidt and RBI double by Richie Hebner giving Lerch some runs to play with. The Phillies would get 2 more in the 8th to take a 4-0 lead with Lerch in cruise control. The Giants still had fight in them though as they get a couple of walks and the a 3 run bomb from Mike Ivie to get the back into the game at 4-3. The Phillies would once again give the ball to Ron Reed to save the game and jut like his other 2 opportunities he would not fail getting the Giants 1-2-3 in the 9th. Phillies win the game 4-3 and the series 4-0.

Phillies move on to face the World Champion New York Yankees in the Elite 8.
