Game 4 – 1978 Tournament Replay Brewers vs Tigers

Game 4 has the Tigers trying to even the series and sending Jack Billingham (15-8 3.88 Grade 8) to the hill opposite lefty Bill Travers (12-11 4.41 Grade 4).

Pitchers come out on point in this one as through 5 inning only the Brewers manage to get a single run. In the bottom of the 6th the Tigers would finally get to Travers, scoring 2 runs. Huge bases loaded double by Steve Kemp providing the RBI. Billingham kept the Tigers at bay until the 8th when Larry Hisle sends a moon shot to center to even the score at 2. That would be the end of both starter’s nights, both giving their teams great outings.

The bullpens for both teams would come in and pitch well. The Brewers would bring in Bob McClure to face the lefties of the Tigers in the bottom of the 11th. That didn’t end well as Rusty Staub drives the McClure curve ball over the wall in right to win the game on a walk off. What an exciting finish!! Series tied at 2.

Final Score: Tigers 3, Brewers 2

WP: Kip Young (1-0)

LP: Bob McClure (0-1)

HR’s: Brewers – Larry Hisle (1), Tigers – Rusty Staub (1)
