Game 2 – 1978 Tournament Replay Phillies vs Yankees

Game 2 from Yankee Stadium features a pitching match up of Ed Figueroa (20-9 2.99 Grade 15) for the Yanks versus Dick Ruthven (13-5 2.99 Grade 12) for the Phillies.

Another solid pitching match up and both starters pitch well. The score was scoreless until the Yankees push across a run in the 3rd. Lou Piniella again providing a go ahead RBI. In the bottom half of the 4th Graig Nettles lines a Ruthven pitch out of the park to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. The Phillies would final dent the scoreboard in the 8th as Larry Bowa hits a sac fly to bring in Bake McBride.

With the Phillies back in the game the Yankees would once again turn to Goose Gossage to close the deal. Goose would strike out the side in the 9th and the Yankees have a 2-0 lead in the series. The Phillies only managed 1 run in 20 innings.
