Game 4 – 1978 Tournament Replay Yankees vs Phillies

Must win Game 4 from Veterans Stadium for the Phillies. They send left Randy Lerch (11-8 3.96 Grade 5) against Jim Beattie (6-9 3.73 Grade 5).

Common theme of the series, Yankees get out on top. Yankees score a run in the first as Reggie Jackson hits a sacrifice fly to score Thurman Munson. The would add another in the 4th as Jackson hits a solo shot off Lerch to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th Bucky Dent would get into the homer action lining a homer to left.

The Yankees would score 2 more in the 6th and the anemic offense of the Phillies are shutout by Beattie. Yankees sweep the series 4-0.
