Game 6 – 1978 Tournament Replay Padres vs Royals

Game 6 from Royals Stadium has a pitching matchup of Bob Owchinko (10-13 3.56 Grade 9) versus Rich Gale (14-8 3.09).

The Royals would jump out in front with 2 runs in the bottom of the first as Darrell Porter hits a 2 out 2 run homer. The Padres would answer with 2 of their own in the second. Broderick Perkins and Bill Almon with 2 out RBI doubles. The teams would trade runs in the 3rd to make it a 4-3 game in favor of the Royals.

The Padres would tie the game with a run in the 4th and it would remained tied until the top of the 8th. Ozzie Smith would single and then steal second and move to 3rd on a wild throw from Porter. Gene Richards would hit a sac fly and the Padres would have the lead. The would then hand the ball to Rollie Fingers and he would do the rest, saving the game and forcing Game 7!
