The Reds finished with the best record in the National League (66-42) but yet didn't make a playoff appearance. The Phillies won the first half in the East and made the playoffs. Opening Day starters is Steve Carlton (Grade 18) vs Mario Soto (Grade 13). Phillies brought their bats. Pete Rose leads off the year with a triple down the 1st base line. After a strike out Gary Matthews takes a Soto change up over the left field wall. The New York won the World Series in 1978 and they win this tournament replay. The fact they won isn't surprising its the fact they won so easily. They went 16-2 and was never really threatened. It was complete domination. Guidry was spectacular and Gossage was reliable as ever. They got clutch hitting through out from Piniella, Jackson, and Bucky Dent. Must win Game 5 for the Padres has a pitching matchup of Ed Figueroa (20-9 2.99 Grade 15) versus Gaylord Perry (21-6 2.73 Grade 15). Great pitching matchup but the teams brought their bats early. Game 4 has a pitching matchup of Ron Guidry (25-3 1.74 Grade 24) versus Bob Owchinko (10-13 3.56 Grade 9) for the Padres. Pitchers control the first three innings until the Yankees finally break through for 2 in the 4th. Graig Nettles with a long 2 run homer.
