Game 3 – 1978 Tournament Replay Yankees vs Brewers

Game 3 was the game of the tournament so far. Pitching matchup of Dick Tidrow (7-11 3.84 Grade 6) for the Yankees and Bill Travers (12-11 4.41 Grade 4) for the Brewers.

What a game!! The Yankees would get a run in the first via RBI single from Lou Piniella. The Brewers would answer immediately with 2 in the bottom half. Ben Oglivie with a homer. In the 3rd the Brewers would score 4 more, Cecil Cooper with a 2 run homer. With the score 6-1 Brewers, the Yankees would explode for 6 runs in the 5th. Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson both with 2 run homers in the inning. The Brewers would get the lead back as Larry Hisle hits a 2 run homer off Catfish Hunter.

After the Brewers added a run in the 6th to make it 9-7, the Yankees would come up with 3 more runs in the 7th. Roy White with a huge 3 run homer. The Yankees would bring on Gossage to save the game but Ben Oglivie had other ideas as he hits the first pitch in the 9th over the right field wall to tie the game at 10.

With the score at 10 in the 11th inning Ben Oglivie would once again step to the plate. This time hitting his THIRD homer of the game off Sparky Lyle to win it for the Brewers.

Final Score: Brewers 11, Yankees 10
