Game 4 – 1978 Tournament Replay Red Sox vs Padres

Game 4 from San Diego Stadium has starters Mike Torrez (16-13 3.96 Grade 8) for the Red Sox versus Gaylord Perry (21-6 2.96 Grade 15) for the Padres.

Red Sox would get the first run scoring as Jim Rice would single home Jerry Remy in the 3rd. The Padres would answer (as they have done this whole tournament) with 3 in the bottom half. Oscar Gamble would take a Torrez pitch over the center field wall for a 3 run homer. The Padres would add an insurance run in the 4th as Gene Tenace would lead off the inning with a solo shot. The Red Sox could muster no more offense against Perry and the Padres now have a 3-1 advantage in this series.

Final Score: Padres 4, Red Sox 1

WP: Gaylord Perry (5-0)

LP: Mike Torrez (3-1)

HR’s: Padres – Oscar Gamble (3), Gene Tenace (2)
