1978 Tournament Final Game 3 – Yankees vs Padres

Game 3 with the Finals tied at a game a piece features pitchers Jim Beattie (6-9 3.73 Grade 5) for the Yankees and Eric Rasmussen (12-10 4.06 Grade 6) for the Padres.

The Yankees get 2 in the 2nd as Bucky Dent drives in a run and Beattie helps himself with a sac fly. The Padres would answer with 2 of their own in the bottom of the 3rd as Oscar Gamble continues his tear with a homer and Ozzie Smith scores on an error. The Yankees would grab the lead back in the 5th with a 3 spot. Lou Piniella drives in a run and Reggie Jackson triples off the wall in right to drive home 2 more.

Yanks would get an insurance run in the 9th and although the Padres would score 2 runs off Goose Gossage it wasn’t enough as the Yankees take a 2-1 series lead.
