Tigers continue their dominate regular season by running rough shot through the playoffs. Winning the World Series 4-1. The Padres had chances in Game 3 and 4 to make this a 6 or 7 game series but could never get a big hit. Petry pitches two great games, and Trammell, Lemon, and Gibson carry the Tiger offense. Game 1 Padres 3, Tigers 2   Game 2 Tigers 5, Padres 1   Game 3 Tigers 5, Padres 4   Game 4 Tigers 3, Padres 1   Game 5 Tigers 9, Padres 0   Series MVP: Alan Trammell .350 Avg 2 doubles 1 triple 3 homers and 8 RBI   Huge honorable mention Dan Petry 2 wins 18 inning 6 hits

Must win Game 5 for the Padres, while the Tigers want to win the championship in front of their home fans. The Padres will send Mark Thurmond (14-8 2.97 Grade 13Z) versus Dan Petry (18-8 3.24 Grade 13YZ).   The Tigers trying for the clinching win come out strong scoring one in the first courtesy a long homer by Alan Trammell. In the second they would get to Thurmond and knock him out of the game. Marty Castillo  would provide a sac fly, Lou Whitaker would single home a run, and with the bases loaded Trammell would triple to the gap to give the Tigers a huge 6-0 lead. Tigers with a 2-1 advantage in the series go back to ace Jack Morris (19-11 3.60 Grade 11YZ) versus Eric Show (15-9 3.40 Grade 12).   Pivotal Game 4 starts off great for each starter as we go 4 scoreless innings. The Tigers would grab the lead in the 5th as Chet Lemon with a triple to score Rupert Jones. Dave Bergman would line a double to the left-center field gap to make it 2-0. The Padres would get a run back in the top of the 6th as Graig Nettles doubles home Tony Gwynn. Key point of the whole game, after Nettles double the Padres had Steve Garvey on third and Nettles on second with no outs. Morris would get the next three batters without allowing another run.  …

Back to Tiger Stadium for Game 3 with the series tied at 1. The Padres send Tim Lollar (11-13 3.91 Grade 7) to the mound versus Milt Wilcox (17-8 4.00 Grade 9).   The Padres would strike fast scoring 3 in the first. Graig Nettles would drive in 2 runs with a double and Terry Kennedy would drive in Nettles with a RBI single. The Tigers would answer right back with 3 of their own in the bottom half. Alan Trammell would hit a 2 run homer and then 2 batters later Lance Parrish would hit a solo shot to tie it at 3. The Padres would get the run back in the 3rd as Nettles would hit a solo homer to right. The Tigers would get that run right…

The Padres take a 1-0 lead and start Ed Whitson (14-8 3.24 Grade 11) to the mound opposite Dan Petry (18-8 3.24 Grade 13).   Pitchers come out strong as we go scoreless through the first 4 innings. The Tigers would score first in the 5th as Chet Lemon hits his second homer of the series, this time a 2 run shot. They add another run in the 6th as Kirk Gibson hits a sac fly to score Lou Whitaker. The Padres would get on the board in the 7th as Alan Wiggins would score on a wild pitch by Petry. The Tigers would get 2 insurance runs in the 8th as Lance Parrish would drive home Alan Trammell and Kirk Gibson. This would be more than enough for Petry…

World Series time!!! Pumped for this one. In our replay the Tigers beat the Royals 3-0 and the Padres beat the Cubs 3-1.   Game 1 features a matchup of Jack Morris (19-11 3.60 Grade 11) and Mark Thurmond (14-8 2.97 Grade 13).   The Padres would score the first run of the World Series as Bobby Brown hits a sac fly to score Tony Gwynn.
