1984 Playoff Replay – NLCS Game 1 – Padres vs Cubs

Game 1 of the 1984 NLCS Replay from Wrigley Field features a starting pitching matchup of Eric Show (15-9 3.40 Grade 12) vs Cy Young winner Rick Sutcliffe (16-1 2.69 Grade 15) for the Cubs.

The starters were in complete control as we go 6 full innings of scoreless baseball. The Padres would finally dent the scoreboard with 3 in the 7th off Sutcliffe. Carmelo Martinez with a sac-fly RBI, Garry Templeton with a RBI single, and Show of all people with RBI double (ironic since Sutcliffe homered off Show in the actual 84 Game 1).

The Cubs would try to get back in the game with a run of their own in the bottom half. Larry Bowa with a big RBI single that would also leave the bases loaded, but Craig Lefferts and Goose Gossage would come in to get the last 7 outs for the Padres win and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Final Score: Padres 3, Cubs 1

WP: Eric Show (1-0)
