1984 Playoff Replay – NLCS Game 4 – Cubs vs Padres

Padres leading 2-1 in the best of 5 send Tim Lollar (11-13 3.91 Grade 7) to the mound against Scott Sanderson (8-5 3.14 Grade 9).

The Padres get on the board first as Garry Templeton singles and up to the plate comes pitcher Tim Lollar. Instead of laying down the bunt Lollar lines a Sanderson pitch out of the park to right. Later in the inning Terry Kennedy would line a 2 hit scoring Alan Wiggins to give the Padres a 3-0 lead.

Lollar would take over from there as he was dominate on the mound and in the batters box. He would hold the Cubs scoreless on just 3 hits. The Cubs bats never got going in this series. Padre pitching was good throughout and they got hits when they needed. Even this game with the pitcher Lollar (Lollar had 3 homers during the regular season in 68 AB’s).

Final Score: Padres 5, Cubs 0

WP: Tim Lollar (1-0)

LP: Scott Sanderson (0-1)

HR’s: Tim Lollar (1)

Padres win series 3-1 and face the winner of the ALCS between the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals.
