1984 Playoff Replay – ALCS Game 1 – Tigers vs Royals

Game 1 of the ALCS from Royals Stadium features a big time pitching matchup of Jack Morris (19-11 3.60 Grade 11) vs Bud Black (17-12 3.12 Grade 14).

 

Pitcher take command early, but the Tigers get a run in the 4th as Lance Parrish and Larry Herndon hit back to back doubles for the 1-0 lead. The Tigers would get another run in the 6th as Kirk Gibson triples and Parrish brings him home on a sac fly.

 

Tigers would bust the game open in the 7th with 4 runs. Lou Whitaker would double home 2 runs, and Gibson would hit a long 2 run homer to right to close out the scoring. Morris would scatter 3 hits for the shutout and 1-0 series lead.

 

Final Score: Tigers 6, Royals 0
