1984 Playoff Replay – World Series Game 1 – Tigers at Padres

World Series time!!! Pumped for this one. In our replay the Tigers beat the Royals 3-0 and the Padres beat the Cubs 3-1.

 

Game 1 features a matchup of Jack Morris (19-11 3.60 Grade 11) and Mark Thurmond (14-8 2.97 Grade 13).

 

The Padres would score the first run of the World Series as Bobby Brown hits a sac fly to score Tony Gwynn. The Tigers would get that run back in the top half of the 2nd as Barbaro Garbey singles home Larry Herndon. The Padres would again nab the lead in the 3rd as Terry Kennedy hits the sac fly this time to score Steve Garvey. The Padres would get an insurance run in the 6th as Carmelo Martinez jacks a homer to left off Morris. The Tigers would get it back to a one run game as Chet Lemon would homer in the 7th.

 

The Padres would give the ball to Goose Gossage to get the final 4 outs and he does just that to secure the 3-2 win and the 1-0 series lead for the Padres. Huge win for the Padres to get out in front against the favored Tigers.
