1984 Playoff Replay – World Series Game 2 – Tigers at Padres

The Padres take a 1-0 lead and start Ed Whitson (14-8 3.24 Grade 11) to the mound opposite Dan Petry (18-8 3.24 Grade 13).

Pitchers come out strong as we go scoreless through the first 4 innings. The Tigers would score first in the 5th as Chet Lemon hits his second homer of the series, this time a 2 run shot. They add another run in the 6th as Kirk Gibson hits a sac fly to score Lou Whitaker. The Padres would get on the board in the 7th as Alan Wiggins would score on a wild pitch by Petry. The Tigers would get 2 insurance runs in the 8th as Lance Parrish would drive home Alan Trammell and Kirk Gibson. This would be more than enough for Petry as he would go the distance only allowing two hits.

Final Score: Tigers 5, Padres 1

WP: Dan Petry (2-0)

LP: Ed Whitson (0-2)

HR’s: Tigers – Chet Lemon (2)
