Back to Tiger Stadium for Game 3 with the series tied at 1. The Padres send Tim Lollar (11-13 3.91 Grade 7) to the mound versus Milt Wilcox (17-8 4.00 Grade 9).
The Padres would strike fast scoring 3 in the first. Graig Nettles would drive in 2 runs with a double and Terry Kennedy would drive in Nettles with a RBI single. The Tigers would answer right back with 3 of their own in the bottom half. Alan Trammell would hit a 2 run homer and then 2 batters later Lance Parrish would hit a solo shot to tie it at 3. The Padres would get the run back in the 3rd as Nettles would hit a solo homer to right. The Tigers would get that run right back in the bottom as Trammell hits his second homer of the game to tie it at 4.
Pitchers would settle after the 3rd as the game would remain 4-4 going into extras. Goose Gossage would pitch into the 11th before giving way to Dave Dravecky. With 2 outs in the 11th Lou Whitaker would single bringing home Barbaro Garbey and giving the Tigers a thrilling extra inning win in Game 3. Willie Hernandez pitched 3 great innings to get the win.
