This series can be summed up simply as the Yankee offense (which was pretty explosive) didn't show up. Runners left on base and a lot of double play balls sealed their fate. The Astros got just enough pitching and hitting to stay in control the whole series. Game 5 from Houston has the Yankees down 3-1 and sending Ron Guidry (22-6 3.27 Grade 14YZ) to the mound opposite Bob Knepper (15-13 3.55 Grade 11Z).   The Astros would score 2 in the first off Guidry. Jose Cruz would single in Bill Doran and Dickie Thon to put the pressure on the Yankees. The Astros would continue that pressure with 3 more in the 4th as Mark Bailey would line a 3 run homer to center. Astros look to put the Yankees against the wall send Ron Mathis (3-5 6.04 Grade 1) to the mound versus Joe Cowley (12-6 3.95 Grade 6Y) for the Yankees.   The pitchers are in control early as the game stays scoreless through 5 inning. The Yankees would finally dent the scoreboard with a run in the 6th. Rickey Henderson would single and steal second and would be driven home by Don Mattingly. Game 3 from the Astrodome with the Astros leading 2-0 has Phil Niekro (16-12 4.09 Grade 8YW) pitching for the Yankees and Mike Scott (18-8 3.29 Grade 13Y) for the Astros.   Pitchers would come out early in control as Niekro and Scott keep it scoreless through 5 innings. The Yankees would break the ice with a run in the 6th. Willie Randolph would double in Don Mattingly for the 1-0 lead. Game 2 with the Astros leading 1-0 features a pitching matchup of Nolan Ryan (10-12 3.80 Grade 10X) for the Astros and Joe Niekro (11-13 3.83 Grade 8) for the Yankees.   The Astros once again come out swinging getting 2 runs in the first. Kevin Bass would drive in Graig Reynolds and Bill Doran. The Yankees would get those 2 back plus 1 in the 2nd, as Mike Pagliarulo drives a 3 run homer to right.
