Game 2 – 1985 Tournament Replay Cubs vs Cardinals

Game 2 with the Cardinals leading 1-0 features a starting matchup of Steve Trout (9-7 3.39 Grade 8) for the Cubs and Joaquin Andujar (21-12 3.40 Grade 14Z) for the Cards.

 

The Cubs would come out of the gate in the first swinging the lumber. Ryne Sandberg take Andujar deep to center for a homer and 2 batters later Keith Moreland would do the same. With the score 2-0 Cubs the Cardinals would tie it up in the 2nd. Tom Nieto would single in Jack Clark and Andujar would lace a double to score Andy Van Slyke.

 

The score would remain 2-2 until the 5th when the Cardinals would grab the lead with 2 runs. An error by Chris Speier would allow Vince Coleman to reach first where he would promptly steal second and score on a Van Slyke single. Thad Bosley would mishandle the ball in left and Clark would score as well to make it 4-2. The Cubs would knock Andujar out of the game in the 8th after a Sandberg double. Davey Lopes would hit a sac fly to score Bob Dernier but Ricky Horton would slam the door for the Cards. Jeff Lahti would come on again to finish off the Cubs in the 9th and the Cardinals now have a 2-0 series lead.

 

Final Score: Cardinals 4, Cubs 3
