Game 5 – 1985 Tournament Replay Cardinals vs Cubs

Cardinals still up 3-1 send ace lefty John Tudor (21-8 1.93 Grade 20YZ) against Dennis Eckersley (11-7 3.08 Grade 10YZ).

 

The Cardinals jump on Eckersley quick as they get 2 runs in the top of the first. Jack Clark doubles in Tommy Herr and Andy Van Slyke singles in Clark. The Cardinals would pad their lead in the 5th with a run, Clark again with an RBI double. With Tudor in control the Cubs finally get to him in the 7th. Keith Moreland triples to lead off the inning and Leon Durham hits a big 2 run homer to get the Cubs within one at 3-2. Tudor would settle and get the next 3 batters.

 

With the score 3-2 the Cardinals would add huge insurance runs in the 9th. Cesar Cedano would hit a 2 run homer scoring pinch runner Tom Lawless. With two out Willie McGee gets in on the action as he lines a solo homer down the right field line to make it 6-2. Ken Dayley would come in and get the last 3 outs and the St. Louis Cardinals are heading to the Elite 8 with a 4-1 series win over the Cubs.
