Game 4 – 1985 Tournament Replay Reds vs White Sox

White Sox going for the sweep sends Gene Nelson (10-10 4.26 Grade 4Y)  to the mound while the Reds give the ball to Ron Robinson (7-7 3.96 Grade 4YZ).

The Reds have been playing catch up almost from the first pitch of this series and this game was no different. The White Sox get 2 quick runs in the first as Greg Walker doubles in a run and Carlton Fisk drives in another. Sox wasn’t done there as they get 3 more in the 2nd. Ozzie Guillen triples in Julio Cruz and Rudy Law, Harold Baines then singles in Guillen for the 5-0 lead. The Sox would get another run in the 5th as once again Fisk drives in Baines.

With the score 6-0 the Reds try to get back in the game as they score 3 runs in the 6th. Tony Perez drives in 2 runs and Ron Oester drives in another to get the game back to 6-3. The score would remain that until the 9th with the White Sox would turn to Bob James to close the series. The Reds had other ideas as they get 3 huge runs to tie the game. Nick Esasky doubles in Pete Rose and Davey Concepcion doubles in Gary Redus and Perez.

The bullpens would do a great job until the bottom of the 12th. Ozzie Guillen would draw a lead off walk off Frank Pastore. Harold Baines would single to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Greg Walker would line the first pitch to the gap to score Guillen and send the White Sox to the Elite 8 to face the #1 seed St. Louis Cardinals.
