Game 2 – 1985 Tournament Replay Astros at Yankees

Game 2 with the Astros leading 1-0 features a pitching matchup of Nolan Ryan (10-12 3.80 Grade 10X) for the Astros and Joe Niekro (11-13 3.83 Grade 8) for the Yankees.

The Astros once again come out swinging getting 2 runs in the first. Kevin Bass would drive in Graig Reynolds and Bill Doran. The Yankees would get those 2 back plus 1 in the 2nd, as Mike Pagliarulo drives a 3 run homer to right. The Astros tie the game up in the 5th as Jerry Mumphrey again hits a homer, this time to center to tie the game. In the bottom of the 6th Pagliarulo would step to the plate and once again drive a homer to right to tie it at 4.

The score would remain 4-4 through 9 as we would go to extras. The Yankees would bring in Brian Fisher but the Astros would get a run. Reynolds would double and would get to 3rd with 2 outs. That is when Fisher uncorks a wild pitch to score Reynolds. Dave Smith would once again get the final outs and the Astros come to New York and steal both games.

Final Score: Astros 5, Yankees 4

WP: Dave Smith (1-0)

LP: Brian Fisher (0-1)

HR’s: Astros – Jerry Mumphrey (2), Yankees – Mike Pagliarulo 2 (2)
