Game 3 – 1985 Tournament Replay Yankees at Astros

Game 3 from the Astrodome with the Astros leading 2-0 has Phil Niekro (16-12 4.09 Grade 8YW) pitching for the Yankees and Mike Scott (18-8 3.29 Grade 13Y) for the Astros.

 

Pitchers would come out early in control as Niekro and Scott keep it scoreless through 5 innings. The Yankees would break the ice with a run in the 6th. Willie Randolph would double in Don Mattingly for the 1-0 lead. The Astros would answer with a run in the 7th as Mark Bailey would line a knuckleball out to left to tie it up.

 

This game like last game would go to extras. Astro and Yankee relivers would keep it 1-1 until the 13th. A 2 out error by Bailey would give the Yankees a base runner, Randolph would single, and Mike Pagliarulo would line a double down the right field line off Jeff Calhoun to score 2. Dave Righetti would get them out in the bottom half and we have a series now, Astros lead 2-1.
