Game 6 – 1985 Tournament Replay Padres at Mets

Mets have won 3 in a row and send Ron Darling (16-6 2.90 Grade 15Y) to the mound while the Padres send Andy Hawkins (18-8 3.15 Grade 13Z).

 

The Mets would get on the board early as Keith Hernandez drives in Mookie Wilson in the bottom of the 1st. The Padres would tie it in the 4th with a run of their own as Graig Nettles once again hits a homer. The Mets would respond in the bottom half with a 2 spot as Darryl Strawberry hits his 4th homer of the series. This time a 2 run shot to center off Hawkins.

 

The Padres would not go out silently. They tie the game up in the 6th with 2 runs. Nettles once again this time a 2 run single to score Tim Flannery and Tony Gwynn. Jesse Orosco would come in and get the Mets out of the jam and the game was tied through 7. In the bottom of the 8th Wally Backman would double to lead off the inning and get sacrificed to 3rd by Hernandez. Gary Carter would then hit a drive to center that would bring home Backman via sacrifice fly. Roger McDowell would get the final 6 outs and pick up the win as the Mets win the series 4-2.
