With the Royals in a 1-0 hole they send young Cy Young winner hander Bret Saberhagen (20-6 2.87 Grade 15YZ) to the mound against Dan Petry (15-13 3.36 Grade 12Z).
The Tigers would once again get out to a 2-0 lead. This time in the 3rd they would get a RBI double by Alan Trammell and a RBI single from Kirk Gibson. In the 5th the Tigers would add to that lead as Trammell would once again double in a run. With Petry in cruise control the Tigers would add 3 more in the 8th as Nelson Simmons hits a long 3 run homer to right center. That was way more than Petry would need as he goes the distance only allowing 4 hits and only one runner made it to second the whole game. Commanding 2-0 lead for the Tigers heading back to Tiger Stadium for Game 3.
