Game 4 – 1985 Tournament Replay Blue Jays at Red Sox

Jays back in the series send Jim Clancy (9-6 3.78 Grade 5ZG) to the mound opposite Bob Ojeda (9-11 4.00 Grade 5YZG) for the Red Sox.

 

The Jays get after Ojeda right out of the gate as they get 4 in the first. George Bell doubles home 2 runs and Cliff Johnson and Willie Upshaw have RBI singles. The Red Sox would get 3 of them back in the bottom half with Mike Easler providing a huge 2 run triple. The Jays would knock out Ojeda with 2 more in the 2nd. Garth Iorg hits his second homer of the series this time a 2 run shot.

 

With the score 7-3 Jays in the 5th the Red Sox would mount a comeback. Easler would drive in a run in the 5th. They would get 2 more in the 6th as Wade Boggs and Jim Rice would drive in runs. In the 7th the Sox would get 2 more to take the lead, this time a 2 run shot by Rich Gedman off Tom Henke. With the Red Sox in the lead 8-7 the Blue Jays would have their comeback. With one out and a runner on first, Iorg would once again go deep off Bob Stanley to give the Blue Jays the 9-8 lead. Bell would add a run with a solo homer to give the Jays a 10-8 advantage. Gary Lavelle would get the last 5 outs and record a save and this series is tied at 2 with the road team winning each game.

 

Final Score: Blue Jays 10, Red Sox 8
