Game 6 – 1985 Tournament Replay Red Sox vs Blue Jays

The Jays now have the series lead as we head back to Toronto for Game 6. The Red Sox trying to stay alive send lefty Bruce Hurst (11-13 4.51 Grade 4XZG) against Doyle Alexander (17-10 3.45 Grade 13Z) for the Blue Jays.

 

Pitchers come out strong as we get through 3 innings with no score. In the top of the 4th the Red Sox strike for 3 runs. Walk to Mike Easler, hit by Rich Gedman, and a 3 run dinger from Glenn Hoffman. The Jays would finally get to Hurst in the 6th scoring 3 of their won to tie the game. Damaso Garcia would single, followed by a single from Garth Iorg, and the a 3 run homer to right by Lloyd Moseby.

 

In the 7th Garcia would single for the Jays again to bring up Garth Iorg. In what has to be the series of his career Iorg sends a Hurst fastball out to center for his 4th homer of the series. Iorg only hit 7 in 288 AB’s in the regular season. This would give the Blue Jays a 5-3 lead and their bullpen would close out the game and series as Dennis Lamp gets the save. The Blue Jays win 4 in a row after dropping the first 2 at home.

 

Final Score: Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 3
