Game 2 – 1985 Tournament Replay Mets @ Blue Jays

Mets take home field in Game 1 and send Ron Darling (16-6 2.90 Grade 15Y) to the mound against Blue Jay ace Dave Stieb (14-13 2.48 Grade 16Y).

 

Pitchers throw up 0’s through 3 innings, but the Mets would break through in the top of the 4th. Keith Hernandez would line a Stieb curveball out to right field to give the Mets a 1-0 advantage. Next man up Gary Carter would do the same, lining a pitch out to center for a 2-0. The Blue Jays would answer with a run of their own in the bottom half as Lloyd Moseby would join in on the solo homer fun.

 

The score would remain 2-1 Mets until the 7th when Wally Backman would triple down the right field line scoring Rafael Santana. Hernandez would line a single to center to score Backman and give the Mets a 4-1 lead. In the 8th they would add one more as Ray Knight would hit a homer out to left to make 5-1 Mets. Darling would go the distance only allowing 3 hits and the Mets have a commanding 2-0 lead heading back to the Big Apple.

 

Final Score: Mets 5, Blue Jays 1
