After the Orioles shutout they are one win away from the World Series and they send Scott McGregor (13-6 3.35 Grade 10Z) to the mound against Chris Knapp (5-5 5.51 Grade 1) who will pitch to keep the Angels alive.   On paper this matchup looked bad for the Angels and the Orioles got after Knapp. In the second Billy Smith would drive in Doug DeCinces with a single. We head back to California for Game 3 with the series tied at 1. The Orioles will send Dennis Martinez (15-16 3.66 Grade 12Z) to the mound against Frank Tanana (7-5 3.89 Grade 3Z) for the Angels.   The Orioles would come out of the gate with 2 big runs in the 1st. Ken Singleton and Eddie Murray with big RBI hits. Tanana would settle and Martinez would be throwing 0's on the scoreboard until the 7th. Baltimore wins Game 1 and send Cy Young Mike Flanagan (23-9 3.08 Grade 15YZ) to the mound against Dave Frost (16-10 3.57 Grade 11Z) for the Angels.   The Angels would get McGregor in the 2nd as Bobby Grich and Rick Miller would drive in runs. Pitchers would settle in as the score would remain 2-0 California until the 7th. In the 7th the Angels would put 2 more on the board as Jim Anderson and Rod Carew would drive in runs with singles. In the 8th the Angels would pad the 4-0 lead as Grich would hit a long 2 run homer to center. The 1979 ALCS Playoff Replay has the AL West winning California Angels (90-72) against the AL East winners Baltimore Orioles (102-57). The Angles send Nolan Ryan (16-14 3.60 Grade 11XY) versus Jim Palmer (10-6 3.30 Grade 9Z). So a battle of future Hall of Famers in Game 1.   After 2 scoreless innings the Orioles would finally break through in the 3rd as a 2 out triple from Mark Belanger and a RBI single from Ken Singleton.
