APBA 1979 Playoff Replay – ALCS Game 4 – Orioles @ Angels

After the Orioles shutout they are one win away from the World Series and they send Scott McGregor (13-6 3.35 Grade 10Z) to the mound against Chris Knapp (5-5 5.51 Grade 1) who will pitch to keep the Angels alive.

On paper this matchup looked bad for the Angels and the Orioles got after Knapp. In the second Billy Smith would drive in Doug DeCinces with a single. After Smith took second on the throw home, Rick Dempsey would single in Smith. Behind 2-0 the Angels would get one back in the bottom of the 2nd as Bobby Grich would tee off on a McGregor curve ball. The Orioles would get that run back as DeCinces singles in Ken Singleton. In the 5th the Orioles would extend out the lead as Pat Kelly gets in on the RBI action as he singles in John Lowenstein.

In the 6th the lead would swell to 6-1 as Eddie Murray would drive in 2 runs with a 2 out single. The Angels would get another run in the bottom of the 6th to make it 6-2, but the Orioles would counter again with 2 more in the 7th to salt the game away despite the Angels getting 2 in the 9th to try and get back into the game. The Orioles move onto the World Series to face the Pittsburgh Pirates in a rematch of the actual World Series. Hope it is a great close series that goes 7 games between these 2 very good teams.

Final Score: Orioles 9, Angels 4

WP: Scott McGregor (1-0)

LP: Chris Knapp (0-1)

HR’s: Orioles – Al Bumbry (1), Angels – Bobby Grich (2)
