World Series Game 1 in a rematch of the actual World Series between the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates. The 1979 series will be played under National League rules so no DH.
Game 1 pitching matchup is Bruce Kison (13-7 3.19 Grade 10YZ) for the Pirates and Mike Flanagan (23-9 Grade 15YZ) for the Orioles. Pitchers are in control of the game early as Kison and Flanagan match 0’s through 2 innings. In the 4th the Pirates would break through with a run as Bill Madlock would line a single up the middle to score Dave Parker. Kison would keep throwing up 0’s up until the 6th. Doug DeCinces would go the opposite way with a single to score Mark Belanger.
After the game was tied at 1 in the bottom half, Willie Stargell would lead off the 7th against Flanagan. Flanagan would deliver a curveball that Pops would deposit over the right field wall to give the Pirates a 2-1. The Pirates would go to Kent Tekulve in the 8th to hold the lead and he would do just that as the Pirates win the game 2-1. Pirates take home field back from the Orioles and lead the series 1-0. Game 2 from Memorial Stadium tomorrow.
