APBA 1979 World Series Replay – Game 2 – Pirates @ Orioles

World Series Game 2 with the Pirates ahead 1-0 has a pitching matchup of Bert Blyleven (12-5 3.60 Grade 11Y) for the Pirates and Jim Palmer (10-6 3.30 Grade 9z).

 

The Orioles would get their first lead of the series with a run in the 2nd. 2 out double by Rick Dempsey scores John Lowenstein. In the Pirates would come back and take the lead with 2 runs of their own via a 2 run homer by the stache Phil Garner. With the score now 2-1 Pirates, Palmer would help himself in the bottom half singling to right center off Blyleven to score Billy Smith.

 

Score remains 2-2 until the bottom of the 6th and the Orioles get their second lead of the game as Smith hits a hanging Blyleven curve ball out to right. With the score now 3-2 Orioles, they would bust the game open in the 7th. After 2 walks removes Blyleven from the game, the Pirates bring on Grant Jackson who gets greeted by Doug DeCinces who deposits a fast ball out to left. The Orioles would not be done as Dempsey would also take Jackson deep, this time the 2 run variety to make it 8-2. Palmer would do the rest and go the distance and we are now tied up at 1 game apiece.

 

Final Score: Orioles 8, Pirates 2
