APBA 1988 NLCS Replay – Game 3 – Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets

Series tied at 1 and shifting to New York. We get a rain out day that allows the Dodgers to start Orel Hershiser (23-8 2.36 Grade 19 YZ) on  3 days rest against Ron Darling (17-9 3.25 Grade 13YZ).

The Dodgers would get to Darling early for a run as Mike Marshall would single in Kirk Gibson. In the bottom half the Mets would answer as Gregg Jefferies would double and Keith Hernandez would single him home. In the 2nd the Dodgers would get 2 unearned runs as a Wally Backman error allows Jeff Hamilton and Alfredo Griffin to score. In the 3rd the Dodgers would get an insurance run as John Shelby would single and Darryl Strawberry would misplay it and Shelby would get to second. Mike Scioscia would make them pay with a RBI single to right.

Hershiser was his normal dominate self not allowing a hit after the first inning until Jefferies again would double. Hershiser would buckle down and get out of the 8th and finish off the Mets in the 9th for a complete game 4-1 victory. The Dodgers get a huge victory and have the series advantage 2 games to 1.

Final Score: Dodgers 4, Mets 1

WP: Orel Hershiser (2-0)

LP: Ron Darling (0-1)
