Two premier lefties start out the ALCS and the starters keep it scoreless through 2. In the 3rd the Royals would get two unearned runs off Guidry. Guidry makes an error on a grounder and Lou Piniella fumbles a ball down the line. Willie Aikens and Darrell Porter score the runs to make it 2-0. The Yankees would bounce back in the 4th and get a run as Bob Watson would single in Willie Randolph.
In the bottom of the 6th the Royals would get a run as George Brett would score via RBI single from Amos Otis. Gura would continue to keep the Yankees at bay until the 8th when the Yankees would get runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. The Royals would go to Dan Quisenberry and he would get 2 ground outs to get out of the 8th. Quisenberry would get the Yankees out in the 9th as well to secure the 3-1 win and 1-0 series lead.
