1980 Playoff Replay – ALCS – Game 2 – Yankees at Royals

Game 2 with the Royals leading 1-0 has a pitching matchup of Rudy May (15-5 2.46 Grade 14YZ) for the Yankees and Dennis Leonard (20-11 3.79 Grade YZ) for the Royals.

 

The Royals again would draw first blood as Willie Wilson scores on passed ball by Rick Cerone. The would add to the lead in the 3rd as George Brett takes a May fastball over the wall in right for a 2 run homer to make it 3-0. The Yankees would threaten inning after inning but grounded into 4 double plays. They would finally break through against Leonard in the 9th as Reggie Jackson would hit a line drive homer out to right to make it 3-1. After a walk to the next batter the Royals would once again go to Quisenberry and once again he would deliver. The Royals take both games in Kansas City as the city moves to New York for Game 3.
