What a great way to end an exciting tournament, 7 games in the Finals. Ken Hill wins Game 7 over John Smiley 1-0 (Frazier homer) in a game reminiscent of the 91 World Series. The Reds fresh off taking out Atlanta, again takes down a favored opponent. The Reds take down the Astros 4 games to 1 to advance to the finals to face the top seed Montreal Expos. The Reds beat down on the Braves as they shut the Braves out twice on route to a 4 games to 2 series win. Reds get great pitching from Jose Rijo and clutch hitting from Deion Sanders. Reds move to the Final Four to face the winner of the Astros/Yankees Series. Game Summaries Below:
After losing games 5 and 6 the Reds bounce back and beat the Mets in Game 7 to move onto the Elite 8 to face the Atlanta Braves. Bobby Bonilla smacks 4 homers for the Mets but it wasn't enough as Bret Boone hits .364 and tony Fernandez drives in 8 runs for the winners. Game Summaries Below
The World Champion Reds begin their tournament with a sweep of the #13 Detroit Tigers. The Reds would keep Cecil Fielder under wraps and get good series from Eric Davis and Glenn Braggs. Reds pitchers only allow 2 runs in the first 3 games as they will move on to face the California Angels in the Elite 8. Game recaps below.
Reds stay alive in Game 3 with a big win and they start Fred Norman (11-13 3.64 Grade 8Z) to the mound opposite Bruce Kison (13-7 3.19 Grade 10YZ). It would be the Pirates this time with the big inning as they get 3 runs in the first. Willie Stargell would drive in Omar Moreno with a single and then Bill Robinson would hit a long moonshot to left. In the 3rd Stargell would drive in another run as he would single in Dave Parker to make it 4-0. The story of this game would be Kison. He would allow only 2 hits through 8 innings.
