Must win Game 3 has the Yankees sending Tommy John (22-9 3.43 Grade 13Z) to the mound opposite Paul Splittorff (14-11 4.15 Grade 6Z) for the Roayls.   The Yankees come out with their backs against the wall and score the first run of the game as Reggie Jackson singles in Bucky Dent. The Royals would answer with 3 huge runs in the 2nd as Frank White would rip a John fastball over the left field wall for a 3 run homer. Game 2 with the Royals leading 1-0 has a pitching matchup of Rudy May (15-5 2.46 Grade 14YZ) for the Yankees and Dennis Leonard (20-11 3.79 Grade YZ) for the Royals.   The Royals again would draw first blood as Willie Wilson scores on passed ball by Rick Cerone. The would add to the lead in the 3rd as George Brett takes a May fastball over the wall in right for a 2 run homer to make it 3-0. The Yankees would threaten inning after inning but grounded into 4 double plays. Game 1 of the ALCS from Royals stadium pits lefties Ron Guidry (17-10 3.56 Grade 11Y) for the Yankees vs Larry Gura (18-10 2.95 Grade 15YZ) for the Royals.   Two premier lefties start out the ALCS and the starters keep it scoreless through 2. In the 3rd the Royals would get two unearned runs off Guidry. Guidry makes an error on a grounder and Lou Piniella fumbles a ball down the line. Willie Aikens and Darrell Porter score the runs to make it 2-0.
